We were the early company to introduce the two-cone drill bit, which was patented more than 40 years ago in 1988, launching the modern day oil and gas industry.
Twenty-four years later, we introduced the Tricone roller cone drill bit. This technology remains the industry standard with its numerous enhancements. Our product line also includes tungsten carbide insert (TCI) bits and steel tooth bits for the toughest drilling applications.

Tricone Bits, developed in the early 1930's, were a big improvement over the two cone Roller Bit. Because of its versatility and performance, it's still one of the main Rock Bits in use today.
The IADC Code describes a tricone bit, it tells you what the bit is, steel tooth or button, what formations the bit is meant for, and the bearing type. Roschen offers a variety of tricones, from sealed bearing button(TCI) bits to open bearing steel tooth bits in a wide range of sizes, in new, rebuilt, and unused/surplus.
The bearings are what make the cones on a Tricone spin. There are four common types of bearings - standard open roller bearings, air-cooled roller bearings, sealed roller bearings, and sealed journal (friction) bearings. We'll look into these different types of bearings, and try to explain the differences.
